The National Youth Leader of social democratic party, SDP, Hon Dr Uchechukwu Ogbonba has officially written to the Ambassador of United States of America to Nigeria to sanction Dr Olu Agunloye over countless illegal and anti-democratic activities to undermine the democratic process of Nigeria and social democratic party in particular.
In a official Letter, written and signed by himself, Hon. Dr Uchechukwu Ogbonna, the National Youth Leader of social democratic party, SDP says illegal and anti-democratic activities by Dr. Olu Agunloye and appeals for U.S. Support in Safeguarding Nigeria’s Democracy.
According to the letter as sighted by the media Dr Ogbonna says “bring you warm greetings on behalf of the Youth Wing of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and we express our profound appreciation for the United States’ unwavering commitment to the promotion and sustenance of democratic values, transparent governance, and institutional integrity in Nigeria”.
“Your Excellency, we are compelled to draw your esteemed attention to the anti-democratic activities of Dr. Olu Agunloye, a former Minister of Power, former Minister of Defence, and pioneer Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Dr. Agunloye, who has benefited immensely from Nigeria’s democratic system since 1999 through various national appointments, is regrettably now engaged in activities that threaten the peace, unity, and internal democratic processes of our great party and, by extension, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he wrote.
The Social Democratic Party, SDP Youth Leader went further to gives account of illegal and criminal activities of Dr Olu Agunloye “It all began when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared Olu Agunloye wanted for a series of criminal offences”. At that time, he ran to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) National Working Committee, spinning a tale of victimization, and sadly, many believed his cock-and-bull story. Little did they know that Agunloye was no victim, but a man with a tainted conscience and a history steeped in deception, the letter reads.
Following due consultations, the State Chairmen of Social Democratic Party, collectively urged him to temporarily step aside from party activities pending the resolution of his case with the EFCC, as a step toward safeguarding the integrity of the party. Rather than comply, Agunloye resorted to spreading baseless allegations against the party’s leadership, attempting to sow discord and destabilize the party from within, the letter further’s reveals.
According to the letter written to U.S Ambassador by SDP National Youth Leader, Dr Ogbonna said, till date, Dr. Agunloye has been unable to present any evidence of financial misappropriation by the leadership of the party. This clearly demonstrates that his allegations are merely attempts to create instability within the Social Democratic Party (SDP). It is important to emphasize that the party operates a single operational official account with Zenith Bank, and all expenditures are properly documented and transparently accounted for, he said.
It is disheartening that a man who enjoys the privileges and protections of democratic systems abroad particularly in the United States, where democracy is deeply cherished, would seek to undermine the same democratic foundations in his own country. His actions constitute a grave affront to the principles of party discipline, internal democracy, and constitutional order. Agunloye’s anti-democratic activities undermines lawful party administration and threatens the democratic stability of our political structure and constitutes a serious breach of democratic norms and contravenes the SDP’s constitution, Dr Ogbonna letter’s reveals.
In the letter, Dr Ogbonna conveys the message of the Youth of SDP to Ambassador of United States America “Your Excellency, the youth of the Social Democratic Party, as committed defenders of democracy, appeal to the United States Government to take cognizance of these activities and support ongoing efforts to preserve democratic integrity in Nigeria”. We further request that appropriate measures be considered against individuals whose conduct blatantly undermines democratic governance and institutional stability in Nigeria.
We remain steadfast in our belief that democracy must be defended, not only in words, but through actions that uphold justice, accountability, and transparency.
We thank you for your continued support to Nigeria’s democratic development and look forward to your kind attention to this urgent matter,
Yours in defense of democracy, he concluded.
