The suspended National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Mr. Olu Agunloye, whose actions continue to threaten the unity and progress of the SDP.
It started when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared Olu Agunloye wanted for a series of criminal offences. At that time, he ran to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) National Working Committee, spinning a tale of victimization and sadly, many believed his cock-and-bull story. Little did they know that Agunloye was no victim, but a man with a tainted conscience and a history steeped in deception.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to the court, revealed that Agunloye forged documents to award contracts at the twilight of his administration. One is left to wonder what could drive a two time minister and former Corps Marshal to descend into criminal forgery just to secure a government contract?
This is the true face of Olu Agunloye: a man willing to compromise integrity and the nation’s trust for personal gain. Even the minister who succeeded him, Liyel Imoke, testified that no valid contract was ever signed by the federal government.
Today, Agunloye stands trial on an amended seven-count charge — FCT/HC/CR/617/2023 — filed by the EFCC. The charges include forgery, disobedience to presidential directives, and receiving gratification in connection with the controversial Mambilla Hydropower Project in Taraba State.
The facts are clear and the testimonies damning. The once celebrated technocrat has now been unmasked not as a victim of political persecution, but as a man with a criminal pedigree.
